LightCube Opto4Bio products aim to solve the pollution and food safety problems related to microbial contamination of water. Opto4Bio is an innovative disinfection system based on a natural substance activated by LED light (Patented). Opto4Bio is based on the collaboration between department of Information Engineering and Department of Biology of Universtiy of Padova, that set up the IdroLife project. IdroLife project has been awarded with several prizes both in StartCupVeneto 2010 and IMPAT competitions. |

The heart of the system is a disinfection technology based on a natural substance (photosensitizer) with strong photochemical and biological properties that can be dissolved in water. This substance, due to its molecular structure, is able to bind to the surface of bacterial cells present in the water. When the photosensitizer is then illuminated by an appropriate light source it becomes highly bactericidial and kills the cell to whom it is attached. |

The disinfecting power versus MRSA bacteria has been demonstrated to be greater than 6 orders of magnitude already after 10-15 minutes of irradiation. This substance, if released into the environment does not create a biological risk as well not be properly excited, degrades over a short period (few days). |
